From spectacular façades to complex textile structures: many folded constructions in architecture and design are inspired by the traditional art of paper folding. Under the guidance of paper artist Elke Muche, various folding techniques are practised and creative possibilities are explored. Voluminous folded sculptures are then created, which can be transformed into light objects or vases.

Iwan Baan is one of today’s leading photographers of architecture and the built environment. His images document the growth of global megacities, explore traditional and informal housing structures, and portray buildings by prominent contemporary architects including Rem Koolhaas, Herzog & de Meuron, Kazuyo Sejima, and Tatiana Bilbao. From October 2023 to March 2024, the Vitra Design Museum presents the first major retrospective of Baan’s oeuvre. The exhibition »Iwan Baan: Moments in Architecture« reflects the photographer’s wide scope by drawing up a panorama of global architecture in the early twenty-first century, of its urban and social contexts, and of the people who use it.

The Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein has its own special magic at wintertime, enhanced by twinkling lights, diverse seasonal installations and numerous special activities for visitors.

The Vitra Campus Winter Day on 9 December offers a rich and a varied programme: there will be gingerbread and ‘Himmeli’ workshops, a food market, special tours of the exhibitions in the Schaudepot and Wunderkammer, a fondue evening, the opportunity for late-night shopping in the Schaudepot Shop and new Vitra Circle Store in addition to a concert by Julian Weiss in the Fire Station. Another cheese fondue evening will be held on 18 January and, of course, guided tours of the Vitra Campus will continue throughout the winter season.
